Bio: Professor at the School of Information Science at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, of which he was director from 2014 to 2017. PhD in Information Science, with a postdoctoral internship at the University of Porto, Portugal (2011 ) and the University of Salamanca, Spain (2019).

Presentation title: Infodemic as a contemporary informational challenge

Presentation abstract: Infodemic is a term that has been used to describe the new regimes of production, circulation and use in today’s world. These regimes are marked by the performance of various phenomena, among which fake news, fake science, clickbaits, false testimonies, conspiracy theories, hate speech, disinformation and post-truth stand out. It is intended to address each of these phenomena and their relationship with the technical, cognitive and cultural dimensions of the infodemic. At the end, some of the solutions that have been proposed to combat the harmful effects of the infodemic will be presented.
